The Alliance recommends that bike and ped advocacy organizations diversify their revenue for long-term sustainability. Typical Alliance organizations' budgets are made up from members & donors, events, and government grants & contracts. Databases & Technology

In this folder you will find sample database solutions that are currently being used by other Alliance organizations. You'll also find a resource for discounted software for non-profits, and information on the benefits of list-enhancement for your organization.

Direct Mail

In this folder find resources to help you with your direct mail appeals. Included is the 10 most important things to know about direct mail, information on obtaining other mail lists, and samples of successful direct mail appeals from Alliance organizations.

Fundraising Events

Fundraising events come in all shapes and sizes - fundraising galas, fundraising rides, walk-a-thons... almost any event can be used to raise some funds for your organization. Generally, 1/3 of Alliance organizations' budgets are from events. Fundraising Strategy

In this folder find resources for determing your organization's fundraising strategy including notes and recordings from Alliance Mutual Aid conference calls on fundraising strategies, information on the importance of funding diversity, and tips for raising more money. Also included is Chapter 6 from the Alliance's Benchmarking Report which takes a look at the budgets and revenue sources of many Alliance organizations.

Grants & Contracts

Grants and contracts can be an important part of an organizations budget. In general, 1/3 of Alliance member organizations' budgets are made up from this category. In this folder you will find resources including information on consulting and obtaining contracts, sample successful grants, and other grant resources.

Individual Members & Donors

Members and donors are a vital part of Alliance organizations' budgets making up 25-30% of their budgets on average. In this folder you will find information on membership development and retention, sample membership brochures, appeal letters, phone banking scripts, and more. Sales: Merchandise & Advertising

Sales of advertising and merchandise can be an additional source of revenue for organizations and can help get your brand into the community, and build new relationships with the business community that may develop into more lucrative sponsorship opportunities. Corporate Funding & Sponsorships

Corporate funding and sponsorships can be an important part of an organizations revenue. Valet Bike Parking

As bicycling grows in your community, so too will the demand for safe and secure bicycle parking at community events. A number of Alliance organizations have found themselves with the opportunity to provide valet bike parking services in their community while earning money for and promoting their organization.
